2018 US Open underscore Williams sisters’ game prevails topranked Halep defeated

The 2018 U.S. Open’s start seemed to be a bolt from the blue for the ace tennis player Simona Halep as she had a defeat in one of the early matches of the starting day.

Ranked on the first place, Simona Halep was given the honour of starting this year’s tournament on Monday but it didn’t turn out well for her. After a ninety-minute participation, the number 1 female tennis player walked out of the tournament, defeated by 44-ranked Kaia Kanepi, 6-2, 6-4. Simona had her first Grand Slam title not long ago when she won this year’s French Open in June.

Ranked number 17 in New York, Serena Williams is in the game once more. In the first round of U.S. Open, Serena got the better of Magda Linette, 6-4, 6-0 and will be facing Carina Whitthoft in the second round. Serena couldn’t participate in the last year’s tournament as she gave birth to her daughter.

As for the other sister, Venus Williams is playing her 20th U.S. Open this year and is keeping up the tradition of never losing in the first round. The 16th ranked Venus Williams had to struggle for almost three hours to overpower former Open champion Svetlana Kuznetsova, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3.

For the 36 year old David Ferrer, it was his last match at a Grand Slam contest which he played against the top ranked Rafael Nadal. Earlier he had said that it was a privilege playing against such a great champion Nadal and that he would definitely fight till the end.

But this couldn’t happen as he was forced to leave the game due to a calf wound. With this, Rafael Nadal has simply advanced to the second round. Ferrer, who is soon to retire, started playing professional tennis in 2000 and was once ranked no. 3 in the world.
