It could come from certain fabrics like synthetic clothes or even soap, perfumes or chemical solvents. Extreme temperature can also make your skin dry out easily exposing it to the disease.

Dehydration of the skin is a possible cause of eczema. You should always moisturize your skin after taking a shower. Substances such as pollen, animal dander, dust mites, and some food items can also cause this skin condition.

The signs of eczema differ in individuals due to the different types. Some of the common ones include intense itching, rashes, a burning sensation or cracked skin. In severe conditions, the rashes may start oozing liquid, and some parts of the skin may appear swollen. It is easy to confuse eczema with a fungal infection due to the lesions that appear in round areas.

How to manage eczema

Watch your diet
The foods that you take also affect your skin condition. Ensure that you take fatty acids from salmon, sardines or tuna since they can reduce skin inflammation. Add the intake of flavonoids since they improve your skin health and also fight the swelling. You can get this nutrient from broccoli and fruits. Take vegetables like spinach and kales.

The foods you eat can trigger or reduce some of the symptoms of eczema. Therefore, avoid eggs, nuts, gluten, soy or acid foods like citrus fruits and pineapples. You should also not take nickel found in black tea, lentils or chocolate.

Use mild soaps
When bathing, you should not use strong soaps that are made from concentrated substances since these eliminate natural oils from the skin. Your skin needs mild soaps to prevent it from drying out. You should also ensure that it remains hydrated by using a good moisturizer that nourishes the skin. Be careful when selecting your soaps, perfumes and other skin care products since some substances in them can trigger eczema.

Enjoy warm showers

Instead of hot showers, make your bathing water warm and don’t spend a lot of time bathing. Long showers dry the skin and can make the symptoms of eczema worsen.

Reduce stress
Stress is a trigger you should watch out for when you have eczema. Eliminating stress aligns your body and mind and keeps you healthy. Try listening to music when stressed or meditating. Ensure you have enough rest and work out.

Make use of a humidifier

When the climate is not favorable, you should use a humidifier in your home. During winter, the air becomes dry. A humidifier ensures that your skin receives enough moisture to prevent it from getting too dry. Also, ensure that you wear warm clothes to avoid exposing your skin to harsh conditions such as the cold.

Wet compress
Though itching may be tempting, you should look for ways of controlling it instead of succumbing to the temptation. Try cold compress to soothe the irritation. You can even distract yourself from the itchiness by ensuring that your hands are occupied to avoid scratching.

Try medication
Apart from making some lifestyle changes, you can try some medicines to control it. Corticosteroid ointments and cyclosporine drugs can treat severe eczema. You can also get a non-steroid cream from a local pharmacy.

Consider therapy
Different forms of therapy are used to control eczema. For instance, if your case is severe, you can go for light therapy. The therapist uses a UVB ray to heal your skin from the irritation. Wet wrap therapy is also used when there is some severe pain on the skin. This can calm the irritation and rehydrate your skin. It also ensures that the topical medicine you may be using is effective.
