Former Prime Minister Of Malaysia Arrested And Barred From Leaving The Country

Following the State Investment Fund Scandal, the former prime minister of Malaysia, Najib Razak was arrested on Tuesday by Anti-corruption Commission and barred from leaving the country with his wife.

He is accused of laundering millions of dollars from state funds to his personal bank account.

The 64-year-old, Najib Razak was defeated by Mahathir Mohammed after a decade of services Malaysian Prime Minister from 2009 to 2018. Merely two months after his ascend to the position, the new Prime Minister of Malaysia uncovered corruption cases within the government, starting with the ex-leader.

There is said to be concrete proof of the corruption and money laundering, which is enough to convict Najib Razakand receive him 10 years in prison.

According to the Anti-corruption Commission, Najib Razak transferred about $731 million from State Investment Funds to his personal bank account over the course of his term.

He is said to have squandered most of this amount on luxury goods for friends, family and even acquaintances but mostly his wife, Rosmah Mansor.

The anti-corruption officials seized hundreds of luxury items that are worth $273 million including 565 designer bags, 14 diamond tiaras, 2,200 rings etc. He also laundered about $4.2 billion dollars to his overseas account in the United States.

Najib Razak will appear in court on Wednesday morning after spending a night in jail and face about ten different corruption allegations.

Razak and his administration is also under investigation for using state investment to fund his election campaign.

In a recent interview, the new Malaysian Prime Minister revealed that Razak considered corruption within the government to be right and had no moral and ethical regard for rules.

Najib Razak’s representative, however denied all allegations and called the arrest “an act of political vengeance.”
