Indonesia’s Java Island Earthquake; At Least 2 Dead And Several Damaged

At least two people have dead as strong earthquake hit the densely populated Java Island in Indonesia, many homes are damaged, several people are injured and 6.5 magnitude earth quake hit the Island on Friday night near the epicenter.

According to reports that the magnitude of earthquake was 6.5 while it stroke the densely populated Java Island at 11:47 p.m. on Friday night.

While the shocks of strong natural disaster were felt about 200 kilometers away of Capital Jakarta, two people died while many are injured, the quake was in place for 30 seconds about and several buildings have damaged.

It is reported that when earthquake hit the island people were panicking as they ran out from their homes, they fled to other nearby states on their cars as well as on bikes in fear of tsunami.

While according to a food vendor in a coastal area of the Sukabumi region, Ahmad Solihin said that his village felt the quake for 20 seconds which has damaged the walls of his homes and he fled with wife and two children on motorbike when heard the news that water is coming.

His village has about 1,000 people, he further said that people were running because in fear of tsunami, at that time he joined them, all the people stayed on heighted place until the officials announced the safe news on Saturday morning.

The National Disaster Mitigation Agency spokesman Sutopo Purwo Nugroho reported that two people were killed in a building collapses incident, a 62-year old man and an 80-year old woman have dead.

While according to reports that the more damage occurred in specific areas of Tasikmalaya, Pangandaran and Ciamis regions of West Java Province due to strong earthquake on Friday night.
